If you’ve followed Avalynn’s Hope for any length of time, you know that our heart is to walk alongside families facing childhood illness. Every grant we give, every event we host, every family we meet, and every conversation we have is rooted in one little girl who forever changed our lives.

This summer has looked a little different for our family.

Instead of constantly planning events or racing from one commitment to the next, we intentionally chose to invest in something just as important—our own family.

For years, our lives revolved around hospital rooms, treatment schedules, medications, surgeries, and long drives to medical appointments. During Avalynn’s cancer journey, our family learned that tomorrow isn’t promised. We learned that memories are priceless and that the greatest gift we can give the people we love is our presence.

Those lessons never leave you.

That’s why this season has been filled with something beautifully simple: time together.

Making Memories That Last

This summer has been filled with moments that may not seem extraordinary to the outside world but have become treasures to us.

We were able to take our family on a special Christmas trip, creating memories that we’ll talk about for years to come. Watching our girls laugh together, experience new adventures, and simply enjoy being kids reminded us why these moments matter so much.

Briella, Emberlee, and Serenity also had opportunities to attend camps this summer. Each one came home with new friendships, new experiences, and stories that filled our dinner table.

As parents, there’s something incredibly rewarding about watching your children grow—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. Seeing them gain confidence, discover new gifts, and step outside of their comfort zones reminds us that every season has purpose.

These moments aren’t distractions from ministry.

They are ministry.

Family Is Worth Investing In

One of the greatest misconceptions about serving others is believing that your own family should always come second.

The truth is just the opposite.

When our own family is healthy, connected, and growing together, we’re better equipped to love and serve those around us.

Strong families build strong communities.

Healthy homes create healthy leaders.

The time we spend around dinner tables, on vacations, at camps, and during ordinary everyday moments often becomes the foundation for extraordinary lives.

Those memories become anchors that children carry with them long after they leave home.

Carrying Avalynn With Us

People often ask if it’s difficult to make new memories after losing Avalynn.

The honest answer is yes.

There are moments when joy and grief exist together.

There are vacations where we wonder what Avalynn would have loved the most.

There are family photos where we still notice the space she would have filled.

There are milestones we celebrate while quietly remembering the ones she never had the opportunity to reach.

Grief doesn’t disappear because life moves forward.

Instead, we learn to carry love and loss together.

Creating new memories isn’t about forgetting Avalynn.

It’s about honoring the gift of life that God has given us today while continuing to carry her legacy with us wherever we go.

She remains part of every adventure.

Every family tradition.

Every celebration.

Every reason Avalynn’s Hope exists.

Continuing to Pour Into Others

Even while taking intentional time as a family, the mission of Avalynn’s Hope hasn’t stopped.

We’ve continued walking alongside families facing childhood illness.

We’ve celebrated victories.

We’ve cried alongside heartbreaking diagnoses.

We’ve helped provide financial assistance through grants.

We’ve continued planning for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

We’ve met incredible families whose courage continues to inspire us every single day.

Serving families isn’t something we clock in and out of.

It’s part of who we are.

But we’ve also learned something important over the years.

You can’t continually pour from an empty cup.

Taking time to rest, reconnect, and invest in the people closest to us allows us to return refreshed and ready to continue serving others with compassion and joy.

The Importance of Slowing Down

Our culture often celebrates being busy.

We wear full calendars like badges of honor.

We feel guilty when we slow down.

But some of the most meaningful moments in life happen when we simply stop long enough to notice them.

A conversation around the campfire.

Ice cream after dinner.

Road trips filled with singing.

Late-night laughter.

Watching your children discover something new.

These aren’t interruptions to life.

They are life.

Looking Ahead

As summer comes to a close, we’re excited for everything that’s ahead.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, one of the busiest and most meaningful seasons for Avalynn’s Hope. We’ll once again be partnering with local businesses, raising awareness throughout our community, and continuing to support families facing the unimaginable.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve.

We’re grateful for every family who trusts us with part of their story.

And we’re grateful for this season that reminded us to intentionally create memories with the people God has entrusted to us.

Thank you for walking this journey with us.

Whether you’ve donated, volunteered, prayed, shared our mission, or simply encouraged a family in need, you’re helping create hope where it’s needed most.

From our family to yours, thank you for reminding us that while serving others is one of life’s greatest privileges, investing in our own families is one of the greatest gifts we can give.

Together, we’ll continue creating memories, sharing hope, and making a difference—one family at a time.

With gratitude,

The Avalynn’s Hope Family
